Police ID Springfield shooting suspect Posted: Apr 20, 2015 3:04 PM EDT Updated: Apr 20, 2015 6:44 PM EDT By WCAX NewsCONNECT Victim: Wesley Wing KEENE, N.H. - Police have named a Springfield man as the prime suspect in a fatal shooting Saturday near a local market. Authorities Monday released an arrest warrant for Gregory Allen Smith, 30, who is wanted in the shooting death of 37-year-old Wesley Wing that occurred over the weekend. Investigators say Smith shot Wing as the victim walked toward Jake's South Street Market around 6 p.m. Saturday. Court papers show a short time before the shooting, the victim confronted a woman parked outside his home allegedly calling her a heroin addict and yelling for her to get out of the neighborhood. The victim's wife says she decided to follow her husband and heard gunfire as soon as he was out of sight. She told police she saw Smith flee the scene. He was tracked to a home in Keene, New Hampshire where authorities seized his Black Infinity, but Smith escaped and police say he's now on the run in a stolen car. "I don't know where he is. He was last seen in Keene yesterday and he's fled that area and where he is now no one knows. I would say honestly with the shooting he's armed and dangerous. If he's spotted contact your local authorities about this," said Chief Donald Johnston, Springfield Police Department. Police say Wing was shot four times in the chest and torso. He died at the hospital. Johnston says the suspect and the victim knew each other, but he would not elaborate on their relationship. Police believe Smith is driving a white, 2004 Buick Rendezvous with a New Hampshire registration of 3-3-6-4-0-9-5. Once Smith is found he'll face second degree murder charges. Corrections officials say Smith has a long criminal history most recently for attempting to elude, driving with a suspended license, and violations of conditions of release.
