ringfield residents: 'ready to move forward' After April 18 shooting death in Springfield, community members hope to begin healing UPDATED 7:41 PM EDT Apr 21, 2015 NEXT STORY Rodriguez moves up in lineup thanks to hot start SHOW TRANSCRIPT SPRINGFIELD, Vt. —"Today I'm feeling...not terrified," said Springfield resident Michael Dion. Dion and his family live just a few hundred feet from where police believe 37-year-old Wesley Wing was shot. "I heard a couple of bangs and thought that they might have been gunshots," Dion said. The investigation into the April 18 shooting continued on Tuesday, April 21 as police resumed the search for evidence. Wing's death at first left Dion shocked and afraid, but after some reflection Dion said, "that's when I really realized I cant let the fear determine what I do and how I live." Dion posted a YouTube video talking about his vision for Springfield in the wake of the shooting. "Everybody's grabbing onto this vision of Springfield as a place where hope is prominent, where Springfield is known for its hope versus known for its drug problem," Dion said. Stephanie Thompson, Director of Project Action, agreed with Dion's message. She said moving forward and healing is all about perspective. "I think we have to accept that there was a tragedy but also realize life continues to move forward and we have to keep making progress and focus on some of the positive things that are going on in our community," Thompson said. "My message is to respond in wisdom not fear," Dion said. Dion said he hopes the Springfield community shows each other support, so they can begin healing together. Thompson said Project Action will be hosting a meeting with town leaders on April 22 at 2pm in the Springfield Community Center to discuss plans to move forward.
