SPRINGFIELD — Jade Twombley scattered fives hit in a complete-game victory for the No. 3 Cosmos in a Division II quarterfinal game.
The Cosmos grabbes a lead in the third when tables setters Brooke Wiley and Lina Geyer both worked two-out walks. Wiley scored on a base hit by Chelsea MacAllister, (3 for 4) and Geyer scored on a wild pitch.
“We played errorless defense today and that was the difference,” said Springfield coach Andy Bladyka.
The Cosmo’s broke the game open in the fourth when Twombley tripled and was brought home on a bunt.
Then with two outs Springfield slapped five straight hits, the key one being a two-run single by Corrina Nichols.
The No. 3 Cosmo’s are now 13-5.
Rachael McCormick took the loss for No. 6 Eagles, who end their season at 10-8.
