Cherished Christmas Tree Farm Up for Sale By Rachel Aragon | raragon@nexstar.tv Published 12/26 2015 08:13PMUpdated 12/26 2015 08:27PM SPRINGFIELD, VT A popular Christmas tree farm in Vermont is up for sale. Peter and Sandra Mollica are listing their historic Springfield property they purchased in 1978. The home was intended to be a vacation home, and a Christmas tree farm was never part of the plan. But when Peter and his wife Sandra planted their first tree in 1982, the farm quite literally grew. Now the 70 acre lot boasts more than 26,000 trees that people from all over the region pick from every season. "Most people don't understand how you get a tree to be as dense as this and as well shaped," says Peter. It's safe to say he knows a thing or two about Christmas trees after running the farm for more than 30 years. And there's a bonus to living on a Christmas tree farm. Just step into the Mollica's 200 year old home. "When you live on a Christmas tree farm you get the best of the best Christmas trees in your home and we enjoy it," says Sandra. The home is on the National Register of Historic Paces. It's up for sale along with the farm for $1.5 million. "Everything needs maintenance, so there is a lot of work just maintaining a place like this," says Peter. But after 30 plus years in their historic manor, it's time to downsize. "We really love Vermont and its a wonderful place to live," says Sandra. "Our son has a lovely home and we intend to buy it and he will move to one house north of here, which would be downsizing for him, which he would like to do. So we are going to stay right here on the river." The Mollicas say more than 5000 visitors from the Northeast come by the farm each year. Copyright 2015 Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc.
