The Springfield Community Players will hold an open social event at the Hartness House on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. to meet with the community and begin planning for our 100th season.

Photo Provided SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -The Springfield Community Players will hold an open social event at the Hartness House on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. to meet with the community and begin planning for our 100th season. The public is cordially invited. In the fall of 1920, the Community Club of Springfield formed a Dramatic Society, whose purpose was to create and sustain interest in all matters pertaining to the theater. Their first production was a play called “Nothing but the Truth”, which was presented in 1921. This society eventually became the Springfield Community Players, Inc. At least one play has been presented each year since 1921 and the Players lay claim to the title of the longest continuously operating amateur theater group in the State of Vermont. As the Players look ahead to celebrating their centennial in 2020, they are seeking input from the community to help us reach this milestone together in an exciting, meaningful and relevant way. This meeting is open to anyone in the area who has an interest in live theater. Especially desirable would be participation by community leaders, former Players members, aspiring actors and tech crew and, of course, our loyal audience. Take a break from football on this Sunday between the NFL Conference Championships and the Superbowl. Please join the Players and bring ideas of shows you would like to see, as well as ways to increase participation in Players activities, so they can continue into a second century. Light refreshments will be served and there will be a cash bar.
