location is everything, so the saying goes;and this location is awful, in so many ways; as a health facility, it is the pits
ReplyDeleteWould it make it a better location if the footbridge to the plaza were replaced with a vehicular bridge and Pearl Street upgraded for commercial traffic? It seems that there is more parking available there than there is downtown, so maybe vehicular access would generate a market for shops and stores that downtown can't attract.
ReplyDeleteHow do we find out?
Another brilliant thought from Mr. Maybe. Maybe the entire Fellows Fiasco was destined to fail from the start because it was a stupid idea to base it on relocating healthcare offices from other perfectly good facilities to such a stupid and inconvenient location. This cafe is just one case of what will become more and more colateral damage from Springfield's near fatal case of White Elephantitis.
DeleteWe should look into more heli-ports. Also, when helicopters go plug-in hybrid, they will be able to use the charging station by the town hall. They could grab a bite at the establishment mentioned in the listing. I guess it would be self service at this point though.
ReplyDeleteI find the Medical Center at Fellows very convenient and a bright new place in Springfield.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunate to see another business tank in Springfield along with the Jenny Wren Cafe. As mentioned before, Springfield's demographic has shifted so far no desirable business can thrive here. Alternatively, if you sell cigarettes, Bud Light, lottery tickets, and take EBT cards, business is great. Sad and entirely predictable. Thanks Shumlin and your lib buddies. Guess you won.
ReplyDelete2:12, if you can identify WHY professional-level (i.e., middle-class) families with children work in town but move out to live in neighboring towns, then you will be able to find the way to shift the demographic back the other way. Any insights?
