SPRINGFIELD — In recognition of National Pet Week, May 1-7, 12 Springfield residents took part in the Springfield Animal Hospital’s Original Pet Poster Contest this month, celebrating the weeklong holiday and raising awareness for pet health.
The theme for the contest was “Pets at Play Brighten your Day.”
First-place winners took home $50 for their creations, second-place winners earned $25, and third-place winners earned $15. Each winner also received a Springfield Animal Hospital travel mug.
Among 10-13-year-old participants, first place, with a photo collage, was Skylar Thibodeau. Mia Valente won second place, and both Wyatt Nault and Halee Dufresne tied for third place.
In the category for 14-18-year-olds, Samantha LaPlante won first place, and Rachel Parent took second place.
In the category for 5-9-year-olds, first place was awarded to Jaime Lagerstedt. Elizabeth Tindall won second place, and Isabella Barrows won third.
Winners on the adult category were Christa Valente in first place and Kelly Gadouas in second place.
The Springfield Animal Hospital also gave an Honorable Mention to 3-year-old Bella Gadouas, who drew her depiction of cats and chickens to enter into the contest. Bella is the daughter of Kelly Gadouas.
All entries were due by May 7. Winners were chosen on Tuesday, May 17, and have been notified. Posters will be shared on the Springfield Animal Hospital’s Facebook page and in the lobby until May 23.
