SPRINGFIELD — Police have arrested and charged a Springfield man following a burglary and damage at a local hospital.
“There was a lot of damage,” Springfield Police Chief Douglas Johnston said on Thursday, June 2.
Police arrested Andrew Fagans, 34, of Springfield on charges of burglary and unlawful mischief relating to an incident at 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 10. Springfield Police were called that morning to the Springfield Hospital’s Emergency Department to investigate a report of a male who had broken into a building at the hospital.
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Coriander Santagate found that Fagans had allegedly broken into the Springfield Hospital Meeting House at 25 Ridgewood Road, according to a press release from the Springfield Police Department.
An investigation found “extensive damages” to the interior of the building, Johnston said.
Wires and computer equipment used for conferences had been torn away from walls, along with white boards and photographs. Items were “all over” the kitchen and bathroom areas, and a wooden door was damaged, all totaling more than $1,000 in damages, Johnston said.
Police have charged Fagans with unlawful mischief and burglary. He was cited on May 10 into Windsor County Superior Court, Criminal Division, and lodged that day at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield with bail set at $5,000.
Fagan did not make that bail, and is currently at a mental health treatment center in Brattleboro, all according to a clerk at Windsor County Superior Court.
No new court date has been set yet.
