Springfield on the Move (SOM) continues its Main Street light pole project. Following up last fall’s initiative, a hard-working group completed the base coats recently, and SOM volunteers will begin the finish coat soon. Charlie Blish, Peter and Sandy MacGillivray, Bill and Carol Eramo, Joy and Shannon Fletcher, Debbie Ankuda, and Pauline Aube completed this phase under the direction of Alan Woodbury and Lew Baldvins.
We want to thank Sherwin Williams for teaming up with Springfield on the Move for their expert help and generous discounts on their products.
We need volunteers to help finish this project. If you want to pitch in for a better Springfield, call Springfield on the Move at (802) 885-1527 or Alan Woodbury at (802) 885-5284, and we will add you to our call list of helpers.

Efforts of this nature are well meaning, and the people involved are committed. Unfortunately I believe these kind of activities, including the new signage, and the bricked sidewalks do very little to entice businesses to locate here. I wonder if we'd be better off if we used all the resources going into window dressing to provide tax breaks, or other financial based incentives? The property tax rate is also a huge turn off for businesses, and potential home buyers.
ReplyDeleteJust curious, while volunteers paint the light poles, what have the DPW staff been working on?
