Published July 25, 2016 in the Rutland Herald Woman to face charges in N.H. By ERIC FRANCIS WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A local woman will be extradited to New Hampshire for allegedly bringing crack cocaine into a prison there. Melissa Robinson, 35, of Springfield was arrested early last week after New Hampshire authorities issued a fugitive warrant because they said she failed to appear two weeks ago for a hearing scheduled at the Cheshire County Superior Court in Keene, N.H. She waived extradition and will face the felony charge in Keene. Springfield Police Detective Sgt. Patrick Call said he was aware of the warrant when he encountered Robinson at a home he was visiting as part of a routine sex offender registry check. Call said that when he informed Robinson that New Hampshire wanted her arrested she “became emotional” and so he called for backup. “Additional patrol units were requested to transport Robinson and upon their arrival she was taken into custody without incident (and) transported to the Springfield Police Department,” Call wrote in an affidavit. New Hampshire authorities allege that, in addition to possessing crack when she drove to the Cheshire County House of Corrections in March, Robinson also did so despite her driver’s license having been suspended, which resulted in an additional charge. During her court appearance in White River Junction on Tuesday following her most recent arrest, Robinson also pleaded innocent to a misdemeanor charge of possession of heroin — police said they discovered a couple packets of heroin and a bundle of needles in her purse when she was questioned while walking on Park Street in Springfield at the first of this month. In between the other arrests, Robinson had also appeared in court in White River Junction on July 5th where she pleaded innocent to a misdemeanor charge of attempted retail theft stemming from an incident that took place in February at the Shaw’s Supermarket in Springfield. Springfield Police Corporal Walter Morancy wrote in an affidavit on that case that a manager at Shaw’s reported confronting Robinson as she allegedly attempted to walk out an entrance door carrying a large bag stuffed with grocery items. The manager told police Robinson claimed to have paid for the items and to have the receipts to prove it out in her car but, once Robinson left the bag behind and went out to the parking to supposedly retrieve the receipts, the manager said Robinson never returned to the store. http://www.rutlandherald.com/article/20160725/NEWS02/160729734
