SPRINGFIELD — A superior court judge has granted a second continuance in the case of the State of Vermont vs. Rebecca Parker, a Springfield correctional facility nurse accused of sexually exploiting an inmate she was treating.
Parker’s attorney, Brian Marsicovetere, filed the motion on Monday, Aug. 22, one day before she was scheduled to face a charge of one count of sexual exploitation of a confined correctional facility inmate. That inmate has since been released from custody at the Southern State Correctional Facility (SSCF), according to court documents.
Superior Court Judge Theresa DiMauro granted the continuance on Aug. 22, with a note that there be “no further continuances,” according to court documents.
The alleged victim, a 31-year-old male, is represented by Deputy State’s Attorney Heidi Remick, with Victim’s Advocate Daron Raleigh also assigned on the former inmate’s behalf.
Parker, 39, was charged on July 12, 2016 by the Vermont State Police with Sexual Exploitation of an Inmate - Confined for allegedly being “engaged in a sexual act with a person she knew was confined to a correctional facility, in violation of Vermont Statute 3257(a)(1).” That offense allegedly took place on Nov. 1, 2015 while she was a contracted employee for SSCF and providing services to offenders on behalf of the Department of Corrections, all according to court documents.
On July 8, DiMauro granted a first motion to continue, with an arraignment date set for Tuesday, Aug. 23.
The penalty for the alleged Class F offense could be up to five years imprisonment or a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
Parker is scheduled to return to court at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 in Superior Court - Windsor Unit, Criminal Division, in White River Junction.
