2016-08-11 / Arts & Entertainment Springfield Community Chorus announces summer concert SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Community Chorus, under the direction of Ken Olsson will perform, its second annual Summer Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the UCC church in Ludlow, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 at the Congregational Church UCC in Springfield. Some members of the chorus will be performing duets and solos in a concert of “Sweet Sounds of Summer.” Music numbers are from “Les Miserables,” and American spirituals, "Music Down in my Soul," arranged by Moses Hogan, “I’m Gonna Ride the Chariot," arranged by Ken Berg and “Pues Si Vivimos” (while we are living) arranged by Alice Parker. Other tunes include :The Silence and the Song" by Mark Patterson and "There is Sweet Music Here" by Greg Gilpin. The chorus is gearing up for its 50th year celebration for next year and is soliciting contributions to the “Golden Circle Sponsorship.” This is a fund set up to support the extra costs of music and musicians they would like to add to their concerts.
