The floors in our Recreation Room have been refinished and are ready for lots of fun classes and activities during this upcoming fall season. With that being said, the September newsletter has been completed and is available for pick up at the Springfield Senior Center now. This is an important newsletter to pick up as it has all the start dates, times and information for the classes, programs and activities that will be starting after Labor Day. Also, mark your calendars for some of the following upcoming events happening over the next couple of months: Annual Meeting (Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.), VNA Flu Clinic (Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.), Senior Songsters Performance (Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.), Holiday Christmas Bazaar and Cookie Walk (Nov. 19 with time to be determined) and much more!
The Springfield Senior Center currently has openings in our Monday Morning Ceramics Class from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (our first class will be starting Monday, Sept. 12). If you are interested in attending our Ceramics Class (there are hundreds of molds to choose from to do make and paint) please be aware that there is a $15 start-up fee. This fee includes all the brushes and materials you will need to be successful in the class. Also, there is a $3 fee per class (this fee is included for your first class in the $15 start-up fee). If you have any questions about joining our Ceramics Class, please reach out to the instructor, Cathy Buskey, at (802) 885-5804. Cribbage and Shuffleboard are set to start the week after the Labor Day holiday. The teams have all been set but, we are in need for substitutes for both games. If you are interested in being placed on the substitute list for either game, please reach out to Heather at the senior center. Substitutes are called upon when one of the regular teammates are not available to play.
The Knit Wits, which meet twice a month at the senior center, are looking for new yarn (all colors) to be donated to them. If you have any yarn that you are looking to donate, please stop by and drop it off at the senior center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The next meeting date for the Springfield Knit Wits will be on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m., we are always accepting new folks to join our group.
With the start of the fall classes just around the corner, the Springfield Senior Center has found itself in need of the following items: toilet paper, double A and triple A batteries, liquid dish and hand soap, bathroom and kitchen cleaning supplies, crackers and non-perishable “finger foods” to be used as snacks during upcoming events. All donations are greatly appreciated and help keep our very minimal budget operating smoothly.
Please be aware that the Springfield Senior Center will be closed Friday, Sept. 2 and Monday, Sept. 5 to observe the holiday. If you have any questions on the information presented above, please reach out to Heather Hall, executive director, at (802) 885-3933 or email her at heatherhallssc@gmail.com.
