2016-09-17 / Community Print article Print Springfield Senior Center news By Heather Hall, Executive Director On Wednesday, Sept. 15, we welcomed Charlestown’s Silver Country music group to the center for a fun performance. With almost 30 people in attendance, the house was pretty full. I would like to give a big thank you to Judy Bastille, Terri Emerson and Carol Peebles for being on the refreshment committee and setting up all the food after the performance. I would also like to thank everyone who brought in goodies for the refreshments after the performance — Terri Emerson, Stanley and Shirley Farrar, Mary Gray, Elaine Stone, Kay Mitchell, Cathy Honeywell, Sandi Tarbell, Carol Peebles and Gloria Ballantine. Everything tasted absolutely delicious. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, we will be hosting our VNA foot clinic. Appointments are necessary for the foot clinic. Each appointment is $20 and is paid directly to the VNA. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call the center today. Also on Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Strength Training classes will be starting up again. Strength Training classes take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. in our large recreation room. All types of experience and fitness level are invited to join us. There is a recommended $1 donation for each class you attend. The donations go toward the luncheon that takes place at the start of summer. Everyone who attended the class is invited to join for the luncheon. On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the Activities Committee will be hosting a Game Day starting at 1 p.m. Come join us as we play many different games. Any game is welcomed to be played on this day so, if you would like to play something special, feel free to bring the game or speak to the Activities Committee so we can see about getting it at the center. The bus for the Scallop Festival will be leaving next Thursday, Sept. 22 from the Springfield Fire Department at 6:30 a.m. sharp. Please arrive to the Springfield Fire Department NO LATER than 6:15 a.m. that morning to receive your luggage tags and get ready for departure. The Knit Wits will be meeting on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. If you would like to stop in and join the group, that would be wonderful. Also, the Knit Wits are still looking for donations of new yarn. If you have any you would like to donate, please stop by the senior center — everything is welcomed and appreciated. Looking Ahead: Tuesday, Sept. 27, Patti Kimball from Senior Solutions will be here from 1 to 3 p.m. She will be meeting one-on-one with individuals to discuss any questions they may have regarding Medicare. Appointments are not necessary. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m., we will be holding our annual meeting to discuss finances and yearly elections. After, we will be having an ice cream social meet and greet with the new director.
