Springfield police investigating River Street burglaries
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Police Department is investigating two separate burglaries last week at local businesses, both on River Street.
An individual reported a break-in on Monday, Sept. 26 at P&M Auto, at 280 River St. Items were taken from the business, all according to a SPD press release issued Friday, Oct. 7.
In the second case in the same week, a break-in was reported on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Black River Kwik Stop, also on River Street.
Police are reporting damage to the buildings where entry was made. The person or persons took items out of the store, according to the press release.
The press release mentioned that “several other burglaries” have occurred in nearby towns, while not mentioning specific town names.
Police in neighboring Claremont are continuing to investigate two apparently related burglaries that occurred hours apart in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the T-Bird Mini Mart and Claremont Head Start Center.
Springfield Police Chief Douglas Johnston was on a call Friday afternoon, and unavailable for comment on whether the burglaries in the two towns may be related.
Anyone with any information about the incidents in Springfield can contact the SPD at (802) 885-2113. Those with any information on the incidents in Claremont can contact the Claremont Police Department at (603) 542-9538.
The SPD is asking that anyone who sees “anything that is suspicious” report it to their local law enforcement authorities.
Those who would like to submit a tip, but are not comfortable calling, may visit the SPD website at http://www.springfieldvtpd.org/ and send information via the “Submit a Tip” page.
