SPRINGFIELD — Current and former teachers, members of Alpha Delta Kappa in Springfield, are donating more than 100 books for children who participate in the Downtown Family Holiday Program. Once again, Springfield on the Move and the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce are collaborating to bring the Holiday Program to downtown Springfield. The annual family holiday program will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, at the SOM office at 6 Valley Street. Children will pick up their sticker maps and visit downtown businesses and organizations to get special treats and stickers to put on their maps. When their maps are full, children will return to the SOM office for their goodie bags filled with surprises. The chamber has invited Santa and Mrs. Claus to come to town! Caroling with the Springfield High School Band, Springfield Community Band and the Springfield Holiday Community Chorus will begin in the People’s United Bank parking lot on Main Street near Santa’s House at 5:30 p.m. Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. to light the town’s Christmas tree. He and Mrs. Claus will then greet children in Santa’s house, also in the bank parking lot. Santa will be available for additional visits from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21.
