The church recently donated $500 from the lunch to pay for holiday food baskets at the Springfield Family Center. — COURTESY SPRINGFIELD — On Wednesday, Nov. 30, a check for $500 was given to the Springfield Family Center for its holiday food baskets program. The funds came from the monthly free community lunch sponsored by the First Congregational Church UCC, Springfield, Vermont. The free lunch has been a mission project of the church members for over two years. Donations from lunch guests and church members have sustained the cost of the lunch since the beginning in February of 2014. "It seemed the right thing to do, to cycle the funds back to our neighbors for the holidays to help feed their families in a time of limited resources and uncertainty for the coming months," the church said in a statement. The church's December lunch is Wednesday, Dec. 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All are welcome.
