The excitement was high last weekend as nine high school and junior high wrestlers from Springfield hit the mats at the Mt. Abraham tournament.
Cardio and drills must be working, because the work put out by these kids was just excellent.
Jayson Webster battled his way through four opponents to bring home the gold. Tim Bapp-Cederholm and Brandon Bennett each earned first place in their brackets as well.
Mo Stettner wrangled her way to second place and Matt Prosser brought home a silver medal also.
Third-place winners were Peter Berlenbach, Gillian Guy, and Skyler Congdon.
Newcomer Troy Meier wrestled hard and kept his spirits and chin up through some tough matches — everyone worked hard, faced big challenges, and earned some respect on the mats.
The next tournament is at Vergennes on Saturday. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
