The Springfield Town Library is pleased to present "Powerful Muses: The Group of Seven Artists" with award-winning local artist Robert Carsten on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. Seven Canadian artists, along with Tom Thomson, weathered a storm of rejection by art critics and forged a new vision of art. Rather than painting the gentle, surrounding countryside, they responded to the powerful muses of wilderness and rugged beauty, painting the Northlands of Ontario in all seasons. Nearly a hundred years after their first group exhibition, today their heroic accomplishments are an integral part of Canada's identity in the visual arts and environmentalism. Join Carsten for this fascinating presentation on our neighbors to the north. Carsten, a master pastelist in the Pastel Society of America, studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Italy. He is a much sought-after art workshop instructor whose gentle teaching style and genuine love for art are simply contagious! This event is free, accessible to people with disabilities, and open to the public. For more information, please call the Springfield Town Library at (802) 885-3108.
