Kurt Carpentino, 33, who has a residence in Manchester, N.H., according to the N.H. Department of Public Safety, was in Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division, after being arrested in Vermont. The investigation began Thursday after the Vermont State Police received a 9-1-1 call at just past 8 a.m. A witness told State Police that she had spotted on Alden Road in Rockingham a juvenile who was reported missing. Corporal Brian Turner, who responded to the scene, stopped to talk to a parked motorist on Alden Road near the intersection of Missing Link Road. The motorist told Turner that he had seen a girl hiding behind a tree near the edge of the road and it appeared as though a man was arguing with her, according to court documents. After talking to the motorist, Turner was advised by dispatch that the girl had been located. Turner found the teenager on Missing Link Road with her mother and several other family members according to the affidavit. The teenager told Turner that on the night of April 26, Carpentino had come to her house and was throwing pebbles against her brother's window. The teenager told Turner that he convinced her to jump out a window and then took her to an abandoned hotel in Rockingham — later identified as Caboose Corners — where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. The teenager later told Det. Sgt. Richard Holden that she and Carpentino were planning to run away together. Family members told investigators they were looking for the teenager in Rockingham because they believed Carpentino owned several buildings in that area. At approximately 9 a.m. Thursday, the Springfield Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop, identifying Carpentino as the driver. Carpentino was taken into the custody of the State Police. During an interview with detectives from the State Police, Carpentino said "What's the maximum time I'm looking at?" and "I just [expletive] myself." Carpentino confirmed to detectives that he rented an apartment to the teenager and her mother in Hinsdale. He told detectives that before Thursday he and the girl had engaged in sexual relations on a number of occasions. Carpentino also alleged that the mother knew about it. He admitted to leaving Hinsdale with the teenager and traveling to Rockingham. According to the affidavit, Carpentino also told detectives that he did not want to put the family through a trial. He also said he wanted to go back to prison, "with a clear conscience." During the arraignment on Friday he was charged with three crimes related to the kidnapping and the sexual assault. He was ordered held without bond. Carpentino has an extensive criminal record in Vermont and New Hampshire. According to the Keene, N.H., Sentinel, in 2003, Carpentino was sentenced to 13-and-a-half to 40 years for sexually assaulting seven teenage girls from Hinsdale and Chesterfield, N.H., and Brattleboro. "Witnesses and victims said Carpentino used to bring the girls to his house, ply them with alcohol and other drugs, then have sex with them, whether they wanted to or not," stated the Sentinel. He was released on parole in 2016, according to the New Hampshire Department of Public Safety. When asked whether or not Carpentino could also be charged in New Hampshire on the new offenses, Windham County Deputy State's Attorney David Gartenstein said that he could not comment on the investigation but that they were working with New Hampshire officials. In relation to the previous four accounts for sexual assault of a minor for which he was convicted in Vermont, Gartenstein said "If he's [Carpentino] found to have violated the conditions of his Vermont convictions he faces the risk of his Vermont sentence being imposed to serve." Carpentino could also face federal charges for transporting a minor across state lines. Harmony Birch can be contacted at 802-254-2311, ext. 153. Follow her on Twitter @birchharmony. Man denies kidnap, sex assault Rutland Herald | April 29, 2017 By SUSAN SMALLHEER STAFF WRITER Carpentino Carpentino BRATTLEBORO — A New Hampshire man on parole for sexually assaulting numerous teenage girls was held without bail Friday following new charges that he kidnapped a teenager and repeatedly sexually assaulted her. Kurt Carpentino, 33, of Manchester, New Hampshire, pleaded not guilty in Brattleboro criminal court to two counts of kidnapping and one count of aggravated sexual assault on the 14-year-old girl. The girl, who is from Hinsdale, New Hampshire, had been reported missing by her family, who went to Rockingham to look for her because Carpentino’s family owned property in that area. The girl told Vermont State Police detectives that she and Carpentino, a former Hinsdale resident, had planned to run away together. Carpentino’s earlier cases were in both New Hampshire and Vermont, in the Brattleboro-Hinsdale area. In 2004, he was sentenced to serve two concurrent sevenyear sentences for numerous sexual assaults. Thursday morning, he was arrested by Springfield police after the girl was found on Alden Road in Rockingham near a dilapidated former motel most recently called Caboose Corners, where police said Carpentino took the girl. A passerby had called 911 after seeing the girl hiding behind a tree. Deputy State’s Attorney David Gartenstein said Carpentino had a long history of sexually assaulting young girls, and said Carpentino was also held on charges of violating conditions of his Vermont probation. He had been on parole for similar charges in New Hampshire, the prosecutor said. Court records listed about a dozen victims in the earlier sexual assault cases, which started when Carpentino was 18 years old. Gartenstein said the three new charges all carry a potential sentence of life without parole. Vermont authorities are working with New Hampshire officials on the case, the prosecutor said.
