PETA calls for investigation into slaughterhouse

Armed with damning U.S. Department of Agriculture reports, PETA sent a letter Thursday morning calling on Windsor County State's Attorney David Cahill to investigate Vermont Packinghouse and, as appropriate, file criminal charges against the slaughterhouse.

  1. We need a law that requires deer hunters to effectively stun the animal prior to shooting it. Many deer that are shot run and suffer until the hunter tracks it down. Different topic, what did vermont farmers do to "process" their live stock. Nobody complained back then except the young ones because it might have been a pet.

  2. PETA needs to be put down. Peta kills the majority of the animals that are supposedly in their "care". Google kittens and PETA. These scum are just another scam tax-exempt organization issuing attention-grabbing headlines to get donations from suckers in order to line their pockets. If you want to be a vegan you don't need to force your nonsense on everyone else. Unfortunately they are running a misguided cult. Anyone got some bacon?

    1. Shoot the messenger much? This has nothing to do with the issue at hand, but PETA operates one small shelter of last resort for animals who need euthanasia to end their suffering (many of whom have been rejected by “no-kill” shelters). This includes dogs who are aggressive and unadoptable because they have been kept chained their entire lives; feral cats dying of contagious diseases; animals who are wracked with cancer; elderly animals who have no quality of life and whose desperate guardians brought them to PETA because they can’t afford to pay a vet to euthanize them; and the list goes on. The service they provide is a kindness, and vitally needed in an area where many people can’t afford to pay a veterinarian to do it. Please watch this short video to see some of the animals PETA has helped in its community: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oItn9Rm9_sE

    2. PETA KILLS ANIMALS! So far they have killed more than 30,000. Former employees report witnessing perfectly healthy adoptable puppies and kittens in the PETA kill room put to death. Kittens in dumpsters, etc. At least the animals killed at a slaughterhouse were raised to become food for humans to eat. While slaughtering thousands of animals a few mistakes, although unfortunate, are to be expected. How many deer are killed on our highways by well-meaning drivers? Should we ban all driving?

Those pets PETA killed were just wasted to save a buck while pretending to be a responsible animal care center while soliciting donations under false pretenses. Leave the slaughterhouses to the meat eaters to police and worry about. No more fake agendas to drive donations and push your nonsense on the rest of society.

  4. Regardless of what everyone is comparing this to or your thoughts about PETA, there ARE rules and regulations put in place for ALL slaughterhouses and those establishments NEED to abide by those rules OR be fined. That has nothing to do with hunters or anyone else. SO however you feel about this story, PETA, slaughterhouses or hunters, it doesnt make any difference...bottom line is these laws were put into place and need to be followed, period!

  5. Animals suffer when raised and killed for food--always. It's just one of the many reasons why I'm vegan.

  6. I believe that it is wrong to harm another sentient being, including animals, which is why I only eat plant-based foods. Better for my health and the environment too!

  7. Animals value their lives and want to live. There is no way possible to "humanely" kill an animal.

    1. Is it better for those animals never to have existed at all? Those pigs and chickens and beef cattle were born and bred to be eaten (and to make monetary profits for a few people along the way.) What alternative for society is proposed?

    2. You want to be a vegan? Be a vegan and stop trying to enforce your whims on the rest of us by attacking slaughterhouses. Try attacking PETA for the thousands of pets that they slaughter needlessly each year. Those animals are just wasted, deprived of good homes and are not used for food for humans(hopefully).
