2017-05-02 / Sports Springfield falls in Unified playoffs BRANDON, Vt. — Springfield had a fun-filled Unified basketball season, but like they say, all good things must come to an end. The Cosmos were eliminated from the South division playoffs Monday afternoon, 48-28, by Otter Valley. The Otters took advantage of their big man, Alex (no last name reported). Otter Valley led after a quarter, 14-6, and at the half, 28-20. The Cosmos held their hosts in check in the third quarter, closing the gap to 30-28, but could get no closer. Cam Colon and Lance Robinson had four points each in the period. “The team's first playoff game was a success due each player contributing,” said Springfield coach Margaret Gultekin. “Marcus [Aremburg] coming out of his shell with rebounds, shooting and dribbling and his first two points. Lance making his inside layups and determination to keep going back up for the shot. Faicia [Maly] with her passing, rebounds, steals and hustle. Cam with his open lane layups, passing, rebounds and smooth fast breaks where he received most of his points. Evan [Hall] with his fast defense and steals, Emily [Cobb] with her quick hands on defense, steals and baskets, Natalie [Corliss] with her passing, Jayden Thurber with his defense, Hannah Anderson with her many shooting attempts. GJ Scherington with his overall management of the game, quick passing and many assists. Alex [Damato] we missed you. Hope you are feeling better. “The highlight in the game was the team's determination to pass to Marcus for his first basket. With direction from Derek [coach Graham], GJ and his teammates set up Marcus to keep shooting. Marcus definitely came out of his shell, with passing, rebounds, moving to get upon and his first basket. “Again, the teams played awesome defense and some double teaming that resulted in turnovers with points for Springfield. They were determined to get the ball. They played hard and played the game until the end.” The team and coaches expressed their appreciation to the dedicated traveling fans and home court fans, as well as bus driver John Allen.
