Photo shows a tractor trailer truck heading for the North Springfield Industrial Park traveling the Main Street detour past County Road, the usual truck route, which has been closed since June due to a failing culvert.
Years of heavy truck traffic has taken its toll on the culvert beneath the road where Great Brook flows through. The brook is temporarily being diverted from the culvert using a large pump sending the water up over County Road and around the next bend in the brook, through more than 200 feet of pipe.
North Springfield's Great Brook, which delivered a humongous flash flood to the village in 1962, looks more like its been through a long severe summer drought in this photo. |
