School District receives property gift

On Monday night, the Springfield School Board accepted a gift of property from Springfield Housing Unlimited. The district has received the house at 33 Union Street.

Another chance to improve the Union Street grounds and neighborhood! In the short run the district will use non-operating funds including the remaining proceeds from the sale of East School for an eventual demolition of the property in 2018. Initial plans are to knock down the building and clean up the property. The board indicated an interest in exploring additional improvements to the property.

  1. Another slum bites the dust! (And another one gone, and another one gone...) At least the taxpayers didn't have to pay for this one. Then again, if you look up the tax history, we've been "paying" for it all along!
