Health Care and Rehabilitation Services (HCRS), southeastern Vermont’s nonprofit community mental-health agency, announced that it has received the Governor’s 2018 Excellence in Worksite Wellness Award for the fourth year in a row.
The agency focuses significant resources each year on the health and wellness of its more than 550 employees.
The awards are meant to distinguish employers from around Vermont who are creating and recognizing a culture of health and well-being for their employees.
HCRS was recognized for this year’s award based on the work of its Wellness Committee.
In addition to the agency’s 5K Run/Walk event held in 2017, the Wellness Committee sought to improve employee wellness through health risk assessments, health fairs, subsidized FitBits for staff and their dependents, and through movement and fruit & vegetable challenges.
Members of HCRS’ Wellness Committee include: Megan Chapman, Katy Duncan, Pam Young, Julianne Vance and Michelle Campbell.
The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports recognized the award winners at the 2018 Worksite Wellness Conference in Burlington on March 21.

Hey Governor Scott, after giving the award how about figuring out why so much of our tax money gets p~ssed away at this place.
ReplyDeleteAmen
DeleteThere is a bag of money behind that award.
ReplyDeleteRoger - Were you bullied as a kid?
ReplyDeleteIronic, isn't it? Some of HCRS' biggest detractors are the ones most in need of it!
DeleteYes, probably why I don't like others spending my money for me.
DeleteYour money? It never ceases amaze me how you conservatives maintain the delusional belief that ALL government expenditures come out of YOUR pocket. I know you WISH the rest of us didn't exist, but we do, and we pay taxes too. So it's really OUR money, and WE have a say in how it's spent! Yeah, being outnumbered sucks, but there ARE states where you would be in the majority. (Hint, hint.)
DeleteRoger, assuming you get free healthcare thru the VA... Who pays for that? BTW - I am not against paying for your healthcare or HCRS.
DeleteI do not get any free health care, I have been working since I was 16 years old, at that time a dishwasher. I have (knock Wood) never been unemployed and have never had any hand out from our government. I do plan to draw my Social Security that I have paid in since I was 16 years old. And by my money I refer to the taxes that to pay to the Feds and the State. It becomes their money at that point, but since I work hard for it and pay it in I believe through my vote I have a say in where and to whom it goes. Good thing for our Constitution, which allows me to say what I feel about that subject.
DeleteRoger, through honorable service in support and defense of our Constitution, earned eligibility to VA services. HCRS clients receive care through the largess of the taxpayer. Some pay taxes. Many do not. I would surmise that most are on welfare, receive state benefits, and receive Earned Income Tax Credits from the Federal Government which is a wealth transfer scheme to give money to those who DON'T pay taxes. They pay taxes with money they didn't earn received from tax paying workers.
ReplyDelete10:35: I agree that service men, teachers, police, fire, rescue, engineers, scientists, doctors, nurses and all public servants have "earned" good benefits for their service to this great Nation. Thanks for pointing that out, it all costs tax dollars.
DeleteYou surmise, 10:35? Meaning you don't know. You ASSUME that everyone but you is on welfare because that's the only way for you to feel superior. YOU'RE NOT. You all sound like a bunch of spoiled little kids; "It's mine, it's mine! WAAAAA!" I wonder how much you REALLY contribute to this country; I have never met a conservative that the world couldn't do without! GROW UP!
DeleteSo 2:54 you’re assuming my situation as well then? Really? BTW, you sound angry. Get some sleep.
DeleteTook your advice, 2:36, and slept in today. I'm just going by what you said; typical conservative self-pitying tripe. I'm not assuming, you spelled out your position quite clearly! Oh, I'm a veteran too, only I got screwed out of my VA by Reagan; he thought the wealthy needed tax cuts more then he needed to honor my service, and the service of FOUR MILLION other vets. Sleep well, oh beneficiary of mine!
DeleteOK you two,you are both going to bed without beer. Now be nice.
DeleteThanks, I'm having bourbon and water on ice. Please tell me how Reagan screwed you out of your VA benefits. Seriously. I'm a VA provider and veteran. Elucidate. If you're entitled I know a fellow vet who works cases. I've seen TONS of BS VA denials. My friend may be able to help you with a claim. Let me know.
DeleteNo, I'm no longer eligible for benefits. I was one of over 300,000 who took the RIF in 1983. So much for Reagan never decreasing the size of our military; myth busted. I started out with VA medical, then in 1984 he changed the length of service required from six months to two years, retroactively. Four million vets lost our VA, overnight. The reason given was to offset the defecits created by his tax cuts. It came out later that he just wanted to purge the military of the Jimmy Carter supporters who joined up to escape the recession. What a guy! Every time I hear a Republican talk about taxes, I wonder how many people are going to get screwed in the dark of night, like so many before!
DeleteAll of the constant hatred toward HCRS ignores the good they do. The company I work for has an employee supported by HCRS. He started 4 years ago needing regular coaching from HCRS staff, now he his able to contribute on his own. He is from a very supporting family that owns a farm and they are not on welfare.
ReplyDeleteIt helps to remember that HCRS is a private contractor and as such is motivated by the bottom line rather than effective service. As a result, it is still prone to the sort of behavior that saw some $1.8 million of taxpayer money spent on an out-of-state project, a $680,000 golden parachute for the CEO who oversaw that, and suppression of its workers' attempt to form a union. Rather than attract, motivate and retain workers, HCRS seems to get them cheaply, suck them dry and have them flee, But at least that gives Anonymous plenty of opportunity to complain about HCRS services.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's the wonderful world of privatization. Conservative owners and managers raking in the taxpayers cash, then complaining the taxes ON that cash are too high! Seen it, HATE IT. Gotta love living in a country where the rich get richer, then blame the poor for not being rich enough!
DeleteRoger, what other state or federal assistance do you get?
ReplyDeleteI do not get any free health care, I have been working since I was 16 years old, at that time a dishwasher. DeleteWhy is 8:03 so quiet, He started this conversations.
ReplyDeleteLook up.

ReplyDeleteI worked from the time I was 12-- paid for my own education after eighth grade, even-- and like you, Roger, never got a handout from the government. When I was in the military, it was taxpayer money that provided me with medical and dental care, and I was lucky enough in most of my jobs to have it as part of the employment package. And I have at least one union to thank for that!
ReplyDeleteWhen I didn't have it, I had to count on being injured at work so Workman's Compensation would cover it, and I had to quit one job when I realized that if my back failed, I would be broke for life due to medical costs.
I just noticed the other day that people are now appealing on the Internet for help in meeting their health care costs. We call it "crowdfunding," but it used to be called begging.
Every penny of my taxes that goes to saving other Americans from being beggars for health care is well spent.
I just feel sorry for people who can't wish for others a better life than they had to scrabble for themselves.
Why Can't you people understand, I believe there should be some help for people that need help and government assistance, but we all know that there are organization's like this one that waste, waste, waste our money and rip us off, if there was some accountability with the tax money I and other pay in I'm all for it, but there is not. There is waste and corruption all over in our State and Federal Government. Outside of that there are families that live on welfare for their entire lives, get out get a job of some sort and try. And no I'm not labeling them all that way, but there has to be some accountability and not just moms teaching children that the government will send you a check, and the HCRS leadership knowing that the more they hire and the more they make people feel they need their help that the government will continue to send them a check. I have 5 charities that I send money to every month, every month so no I'm not a person that does not care, I just want the money that I earn and give to the government to be spent wisely. Don't spin my words.....
ReplyDeleteRoger, if that's what you mean, why not say it that way instead of just insulting people? I've jumped on your case many times for that, but I must say; when you say what you mean without being nasty, I actually agree with you! You even sound like you've got a brain in your head!
DeleteThe biggest mistake most wrong-headed people make is that their life experience is just the same as everyone else's. They cannot see the bigger picture, which results in two problems for them:
ReplyDelete1) they don't know when they're being screwed over by the system. An example is the "catastrophic" health insurance policy, which is perfectly legal to sell and buy, but it guarantees that the holder will, in the case of a minor chronic condition like asthma, likely go bankrupt paying for it himself. So rather than go through life knowing that they will never be impoverished by a medical condition, they simply sweat things out until they are eligible for Medicare-- and meanwhile as Young Republicans or teabaggers, they vote for candidates who keep trying to put Medicare beyond their reach (it's very easy when you're 40 to think you'll never see 65). They simply don't know they're being screwed by the system.
2. They cannot put themselves in the place of somebody who didn't get the same lucky breaks they did. For instance, sanitation workers certainly work harder physically than financial advisors, but are unlikely to get either the sympathy or the level of medical care simply because they are in a low-status job and earning a lot less.
As a result of having such a limited focus, those people do themselves a disservice: When disaster strikes them, they can count on as much support from society as they advocated for all Americans less lucky than they-- which will be hardly any.
A BIG AMEN to people not knowing how bad they're getting screwed! I remember how things were back in the Sixties, when I was a kid. If you went to work 40 hours a week, you were virtually guaranteed a living wage! Companies offered decent healthcare, paid decent wages, and offered pensions if you worked for a REALLY good one! My uncle was a sanitation worker; he drove a Cadillac! That ended with Reagan; you're lucky not to be on food stamps and medicaid today, even working full time! Every working American below the age of 50 is getting screwed, really. Even if you think you have it good, you're not doing as well as you would have then. Why, you ask, were things that good? UNION WAGES AND HIGH TAXES! A lot of people are lucky; if young people knew how bad they REALLY have it, they'd be out looking for blood! Maybe one day they will.
DeleteUnion Wages and High Taxes, pay you more so you can pay more? That's the solution, make more money to give to the government.... I'll have to ponder that one a long while.
DeleteRoger, Roger, Roger; just when I thought you were starting to make sense! You PAY more because you GET more. That means that: 1) YOU have more money. 2) There's more revenue for infrastructure. 3) More money flowing through the economy creates jobs that actually pay well enough for one breadwinner to support a family. You know, like it USED to be. Supply-side economics just bleeds the working class to make the rich richer. Why, after 40 years, can you not see this? You must be one of those people who doesn't know how badly you're getting screwed! The problem is that you vote for the people who are doing it to you, AND the rest of us!
Delete12:11, Matthew 7:6....
Delete12:11 again. Proverbs 22:16!
Delete8:36 That one's surely wishful thinking.
DeleteNot really, Philip. It was explained to me (as a kid in CCD) that the poverty that the wealthy experience is a spiritual poverty in the eyes of God. The poverty experienced by giving gifts to the wealthy is real, and comes from the fact that the rich will never repay the kindness. Tax cuts (gifts) for billionaires means we go broke, as a nation. Nothing wishful about it.
DeleteRoger, arguing with these idiots is like talking to a brick wall.
ReplyDeleteYou want to know why Wall Street is such a powerful entity and schools aren't? It's where people get paid really, really well-- so once they get employed in Wall Street (it's typical for somebody who doesn't know beans about finance to get hired for a starting salary over $100,000; read Michael Lewis' books, "Liar's Poker" or "The Big Short"). For money like that, you can bet they'll bust their butt to keep the job. We'd find the same if we paid teachers and social service workers like that.
