Plea copped in crime spree

A string of unrelated crimes caught up with a Springfield man on Tuesday.
Joshua Morgan, 21, was sentenced in district court to three to six months' probation after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of consuming alcohol as a minor, one misdemeanor count of giving alcohol to a minor, one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and one count of possessing deer out of season. In addition, Morgan pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of simple assault.

Hartland cemetery removal challenged

When Marcia Neal began to research her genealogy, she had no idea she would find herself having to go to court to defend the graves of her ancestors.
J. Michel Guite of Springfield, the prospective buyer of the property containing the Aldrich-Kendall Cemetery, said he would like to do just that after the burial ground is relocated.

State awards $2.8 million in enhancement grants

Gov. James Douglas announced Wednesday that 21 towns would receive a total of $2.8 million in community enhancement grants.
Springfield was awarded a $35,000 grant to explore the possibility of extending the Toonerville Trail, which currently runs from Clinton Street to the Connecticut River, up to Bridge Street, said Town Manager Bob Forguites.
