GENE MORRISON AND THE KELLY STAND BAND
FIRST FRIDAYS IN SPRINGFIELD
GENE MORRISON AND THE KELLY STAND BAND
APRIL 1, 2011 AT 7:00 PM AT THE SPRINGFIELD TOWN LIBRARY
Jamaica, Vermont native, Gene Morrison has been busy since he performed for us last spring. Gene garnered international attention recently for his debut CD, "Looking Back" which earned 4 out of 5 stars in the recent issue of Great Britain's Maverick Magazine. Based in Kent, England, Maverick bills itself as the voice of country/bluegrass/roots music in Great Britain.
Maverick reviewer Larry Kelly praised Morrison's writing and the song's clean instrumental work. "His music is something of an amalgam of Country and Bluegrass and his style of delivery has a good chance of holding appeal to followers of both genres," Kelly wrote, "Many of the most credible songs written are those based on personal experience or at least those which convincingly empathize with others, and every one of the dozen featured songs does that very well."
Gene will play some of your favorites from "Looking Back" and some brand new tunes as well. Gene's songs celebrate his Vermont roots and memories of attending barn dances in "Waltzing in Newfane" and of "Muzzy's Store", a Jamaica institution for 150 years. Plan to arrive early, seating is first come first serve. Doors open at 6:30. This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Springfield Town Library. The Springfield Town Library is located at 43 Main St Springfield, VT. For more information please call the library at 802.885.3108 or visit www.springfieldtownlibrary.org.
