A crowd gathered downtown this evening in the Peoples Bank parking lot to witness Santa light up the town christmas tree.
The decorations are up and the excitement is building as the community readies for the 2011 holiday season. The store windows will be ablaze with sparkling lights and with wreaths hung on the doors.
Santa has been polishing his boots and checking his list. He is planning on a visit to Springfield on Friday, December 2nd to visit with all the good boys and girls.
Children are encouraged to bring their parents to downtown Springfield on Friday, December 2nd at 4:30 pm to begin an evening of holiday fun. Stop at the Springfield on the Move office to pick up a map of downtown, then proceed to visit the businesses listed to get a sticker for the map; once the map is filled pick up your prize at the Springfield on the Move office.
At 5:00 pm bring Mom and Dad to the Peoples United Bank lot to sing Christmas carols while we wait for Santa’s arrival at 5:30 pm. The Springfield Community Band will provide the music and the Springfield Community Players, as Dickens carolers will lead the caroling.
Santa’s helpers, Alex and Barb Greer will bring Santa to downtown in a horse drawn wagon, to light the Community Christmas tree at 5:30 pm. Santa will greet all the children and will then lead the gathering to the Springfield Town Library Open House, where everyone can warm their hands and feet, take pictures with Santa and enjoy refreshments.
This year we are celebrating with our “Charlie Brown Tree”. Our poor tree has suffered serious damage, and try as we might to replace it before the holiday season begins, Tropical Storm Irene and our early snowstorm prevented the replacing of our downtown Christmas tree. Please come and say farewell to our tree which has provided us with many years of holiday joy for all. The lights will go on and we will enjoy the tree for one last year.
Santa will make his annual arrival to the Springfield Shopping Plaza on Saturday, December 3rd at 11:00 am. Santa will visit with all the children at his house in the Springfield Plaza throughout the holiday season. If you are unable to make a visit on Saturday, December 3rd, Santa has posted his visiting schedule on his house. Please call the Chamber office if you need further information: 885-2779 or email chamber@springfieldvt.com
