Fair organizers are actively are looking for local employers with job opportunities, especially those who gear up in the spring and summer.

  3. I attended the job fair yesterday. It was very exciting. I made a lot of contacts and had a lot of conversations with a lot of employers. Thank you River Valley WIB. You are just the kind of thing this town needs!

    1. Did it motivate you to get a job for a change? There are far more options available to you thru the Vermont Dept of Labor's Job Link listings.

With seasonal construction work upon us, and a shortage of skilled trades, there is NO excuse for being on the unemployment roles.

    2. 1. I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I already have a job. I'm always looking for opportunities to improve myself.
      2. Although the link you provided is a great resource, not all employers post on the link, and not all unemployed have access to the Internet.
      3. You are correct, there are great jobs in our region. Unfortunately, there is a gap between the skills employers are looking for and the skill-sets of those who are unemployed or underemployed. There were several educational institutions represented at the fair, including CCV and RVTC's Adult Education Program. VSAC was also there.
      4. Have a nice day.

  4. There should have been 1000's of people there. I would be willing to bet that no more then 100 actually made an appearance.
I was talking to someone yesterday that made an excellent point. He suggested that before someone goes on welfare they must...
    1. have a high school diploma
    2. pass a drug test, monthly
    3. participate in a job skills class each week
    4. check in at unemployment every week day by a set time (early) dressed for an interview (the only exception is if you actually HAVE an interview)
That is it, I recall when I was on unemployment for less then a month I was hitting the streets, filling out applications checking in almost every day at the unemployment office for leads. I had an interview within a week. I was hired after 2 weeks and started a few days later.
I'm not trying to "toot my own horn" just stating that when the going got tough, I got going. I took the first job I could find, however, I kept looking. I now work at a great company doing something I love to do.
Remember, there is NO JOB BENEATH YOU!! Don't be afraid to work, whether it is cleaning toilets at McDonalds or slaughtering chickens. A job is a job. EARNING money vs. getting money feels a lot better!!
