The all-female teen cast of Springfield High School’s production of “The Odd Couple”.
Springfield — Springfield High School’s Spring Theater Production is the Neil Simon classic 1960s comedy, “The Odd Couple”. But this time, the stage show as a twist–SHS’s production boasts an all-female teen cast. Characters Florence Unger and Olive Madison headline this “all-chick” variation of the Simon play.
The production will be stage three times, on Friday, March 30, at 7 p.m, and Saturday, March 31, at 7 p.m., and Sunday April 1, at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
Instead of the 1960s poker party that begins the original version, Madison has invited the girls over for an evening of 1990s Trivial Pursuit.
The Pidgeon sisters have been replaced by the two Constanzuela brothers. But the hilarity remains the same.
The production is rated PG-13.

Wow, it wasn't that long ago that SHS drama club was a very popular elective for students. There were athletes and artists, engineers and educators all participating. Now it looks like they're desperate for ANYONE to join. What a sad state of affairs.
ReplyDeleteWhat? Engineers and educators? You mean back then they had to draft the adults into the plays? Or is this just another "Oh gee wasn't it wonderful when the mills were booming and the rivers turned colors" rant.
DeleteThe "state of affairs" that is sad, is that this group of highschool students is putting in the time and effort to put on a play for the community and you, who have not even seen the production yet, decide to launch a totally unfounded, sexist attack disparaging them. If you want to make such baseless comments, how about you take the "pointy white hat" off and let us see who it is that is so misguided as to make all of these derrogatory personal attacks aimed at highschool students putting on a production. Did it occur to you that you should see the show before you post an entirely baseless review?
ReplyDeleteMost people do not go to a play to see an athlete, an engineer, or an educator, they go to see the play and the performers (also known as artists) in the play. If there are athletes among them, great, if there are engineers, great, if there are educators, well I'd rather see the students than the educators, but I'm glad they are there supporting it.
Let's appreciate the production based on its merits, not on whether it fits your sexist thoughts on who should or should not be involved in it, or your baseless assumptions as to the other activities the performers participate in. I for one, would not want our drama club to limit itself to athletes and engineers and am glad it is open to any student performers.
Well said Ethan, Well said! How is it that nothing is ever good enough for some people! We should be celebrating and appreciating the hard work of any student, instead all I seem to ever see is bashing of our students and their achievements. And why would there be educators, and engineers in a high school production? Last I checked engineers and educators were already out of high school, and the plays were left to students no matter their interests.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ethan!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will be a great play- looking forward to it.
Glad to support anyone standing up to do something fun and enriching for the community!
There are actually two boys in the show!
