SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -
Vermont has its very own Mega Millions winner. He may not have won the jackpot, but he walked away with a boatload of cash.
Joe's Discount Beverage in Springfield sold the winning ticket valued at $250,000. The quick pick ticket matched the five white ball numbers, but missed the Mega Ball.
Employees are not revealing who the lucky winner is, but they did say the local Springfield man had no idea he had won when he came into the store to check his ticket.
"I said well I have some good news for you. He said what? I said you happen to be our $250,000 winner in our store. And he just slumped and cried and he was just very thrilled. I made him sign his tickets immediately and I sent him down to People's Bank," said Julie Coloutti of Joe's Discount.
Joe's says the hefty jackpot was a big boost for business. In exchange for selling the winning ticket, the store gets a check for $2,500; 1 percent of the winnings.
