SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -
Saturday night two people in Springfield say they had just finished taking photos of their niece and granddaughter at prom when they were walking through a cross walk and were hit by a car. The driver sped off and police have yet to find who did it.
It was prom night at the Hartness House and limos and old fashioned cars filled the street. Families, like Kevin Ticino's were there to capture the memories. It was around 6:30 in the evening that the mood changed.
"This black mark in the road is actually where he spun the tires and hit me," Ticino said.
Ticino and Mary Martin who was also hit were walking with a handful of other people through the cross walk when a black Toyota Corolla with Vermont plates allegedly reversed into the crowd. "Put me on the hood, and sped off down the road," Ticino said.
Mary Martin believes she was intentionally hit out of road rage. "The guy started shaking inside his car, this guy was not doing it on accident, I mean he saw everybody in his way and continued to back up," Martin said.
But neighbors who spent much of Saturday on their porch and witnessed the whole thing think it was accidental, but say regardless, the driver, who's described as being in his late 50's, with white hair sped off. "The tires were burning on the pavement," Deborah Jackson said.
Although no one was seriously injured, the two that were hit say they're sore today. "My back and my neck hurt and I have a headache," Ticino said.
The Springfield Police Department says this case is considered an on going investigation.
But for the victims, the lack of communication leads them to believe justice won't be served. "He didn't ask us to do statements or anything," Ticino said.
The Springfield Police Chief said they believe the driver had been dropping someone off at the prom. He says if's caught, he could be charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
Even entering a Crosswalk when pedestrians are in it gets you a ticket. Who was this guy?
