SPRINGFIELD — An inmate who was seriously injured in a fight with another inmate has been transferred back to a Vermont state prison.
Vermont Corrections Commissioner Andrew Pallito says 19-year-old Ryan John is in the infirmary of the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield. He told the Eagle Times (http://bit.ly/JKYgk8) he expects John to make a full recovery.
John was allegedly assaulted by 21-year-old Dakota Gardner on April 23. Medical staff administered life-saving measures to John.
Pallito said John entered Gardner's cell during a recreation period for the inmates.
Gardner was being held on an aggravated assault charge. He recently was indicted on federal charges for threatening the life of the president and injure Gov. Peter Shumlin and his family.
John was being held on a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct.
