Matt Groening: The Simpsons ... Where?

In a Malibu parking lot, the cartoon god responds to an entertainment reporter asking to finally settle the Springfield debate once and for all. http://www.tmz.com/2012/04/30/matt-groening-springfield/

I've always been somewhat sad about the attention given to the Simpsons connection to Springfield. While it's nice to have won a public relations contest, in the context of the town's history, it's rather cruel to descend from a position of vital importance in America's development of machine tools (Springfield was #4 on the Nazi Luftwaffe's target list) to a situation in which we would jealously guard our connection to a cartoon.

Wall Street gutted Precision Valley, and when the Simpsons connection came in to fill the void, no one noticed that the Springfield plant that cast the fiberglass statues of them shut down for good that week.

For me, the Simpsons sit like Poe's raven, croaking "Nevermore!" It's a good thing new endeavors are stirring in town!

  2. Like the cartoonist Gary Larson once said. If a tree falls on a mime in the forest.... does anyone care? It is the same with the Simpson's Movie. If the Simpson's Movie premiers in Springfield, VT...... Does anyone care? Nope!
