Three Spartans receive preseason honors
Staff Report
CASTLETON — Junior wide receiver Brandon Boyle of Springfield continues to receive preseason recognition as he was named a USA Football News Division III Pre-Season Second-Team All-American. Senior quarterback Shane Brozowski and linebacker Josh Osborne were named to the Third Team.
This is the second preseason All-America selection for Boyle, who was named to the Beyond Sports Network D-III Preseason All-America First Team earlier this summer. The wideout is entering his third season at Castleton after an impressive sophomore campaign which landed him a BSN All-American Third Team selection as well as an ECFC All-Conference First Team selection, a spot on the NEFW All-New England Team and a d3football.com All-East Region Third Team selection.
In 10 games, Boyle posted Castleton single-season records with 81 receptions for 1,062yards and 11 touchdowns. His 8.1 receptions per game ranked ninth in the country and his 106.2 yards per game were 21st overall. He also owns program records in career receptions (109), yards (1,428) and touchdowns (15).
Brozowski has already been selected as a BSN Preseason All-America Honorable Mention after a prolific junior campaign. In 2011, he ranked 20th in the country in total passing yards and now needs 1,586 yards this season to set the New England record for most career passing yards.
The 2010 ECFC Offensive Player of the Year and three-time All-ECFC First Team honoree tossed a Castleton-record 29 touchdowns last season, including seven in a victory over Anna Maria. He has completed at least 64 percent of his passes each of the past two seasons while throwing for more than 5,500 yards and 45 touchdowns.
Osborne had a breakthrough season last year, leading the team in tackles with 93 and ranking third in the conference in tackles per game (9.3). He also registered three tackles for a loss and 0.5 sacks while being named second-team All-ECFC. In just two seasons at Castleton, he has amassed 132 tackles, including a school-record 16 against Anna Maria last season.

ReplyDeleteThis is great, finally someone from Springfield with a future in sports.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the school system can't wrap their tiny heads around the fact that we have some good atheletes coming up the ranks as well. Unfourtunatly, this town has nothing to offer them except hanging out at the plaza with stupid Honda civics if they don't want to be part of the drug crowd.
