VTel & le TV

The local phone company will launch their television service in North Springfield before year-end. As they finalize programming, packages, and pricing, they're looking for customer input on their channel lineup.

  1. Are they going to have a public access channel like SAPA?

    1. Better yet, are they going to carry SAPA? Wanting to watch local public access is what keeps many people away from the less expensive dish services.

    2. I believe, but could be wrong, that SAPA is supported by one of the expensive dish services, so not sure how that works whether VTel can chip in to support or whether they have to create their own.

    3. SAPA TV receives funding to provide community television through Comcast Cable subscribers. AT THIS TIME you can only view SAPA TV through Comcast.

    4. So if VTel wants a public access channel they will have to set their own up?

    5. It appears VTel is designating 12 channels for public access programming. Shall we start planning a weekly Springfield Vermont News show? Commenters could still remain anonymous appearing on screen. Just come up with a creative way to hide your face like the Rite Aid robbers do.

  2. Its my understanding the SAPA will be part of the new lineup....What I can't stand is the VTel rollout of new products...Advertise heavily early and then deliver years later. I live in Springfield and called VTel a few weeks ago to find out when Fiber and TV would be available and was told in the Fall. Now I see TV will be available only in North Springfield this fall.

    1. I hear ya! I remember seeing a commercial on the Superbowl five years ago for Fiber to the home and it still doesn't seem to be here... My guess is we will see this TV service in 5-10 years...

  3. I have also called VTel a couple time to inquire about timing and pricing of TV and cell service. I was disappointed that no answer could be given. A little specious to tout that their price(s) will be lower than cable (i.e. Comcast-whose service is quite good actually, yes a little pricey) but unable to actually give you a price or time frame. They have not convinced me to switch yet. And their current phone pricing is very antiquated and expensive. Oh well...

  4. Stop complaining, you're all annoying. Can't wait until this rolls out, thanks for working hard VTel! #anythingtodumpcomcast

  5. Hopefully VTel will not raise prices after the 'honeymoon' year.

  6. Six months have passed since the press release says TV by year end. Guess they missed the mark. OOPS. Years end 2013 maybe.

Hopefully they will meet the new goal.

America is now experiencing its third generation of children born into a home with a TV already present. What are the implications of this?

  8. Could we please get rid of the picture of that gray haired guy at the bottom of the thread?

    He's kind of spooky looking.
