If you receive a monthly electric bill from Green Mountain Power in your name, you can opt out of having a Smart Meter installed by calling their Customer Service Number above. By law, they cannot charge you any fee to opt out.

You will not be asked why you don't want a Smart Meter nor will they try to talk you into taking one. Below is a transcript of an actual opt-out call made 10 days ago.

GMP Automated Voice Answering System: Good Afternoon, you have reached the Green Mountain Power Information System. Your call may be monitored to assure quality customer service. If you are calling from a touch tone phone, press 1, otherwise please hold for a voice response line.

Note: The term "Smart Meter" has picked up some bad connotations over the past year so power company people now prefer us to use the term "Wireless Advanced Meter".

  1. Do it ASAP, if you plan to-
I've been meaning to do it for a long time, and this week I realized the reason my appliances were blinking- we now have a Smart Meter! They must have done it while we were out.

    We're in Springfield, near downtown.

    1. They'll come and reinstall your old analog meter at no cost as long as you request in in the next week or 2.

  3. Bunch of hippies. Who cares about what meter they use? Damn, Vermont is stupid.

  4. Not stupid, just ignorant. The "science" behind these data is laughable and is the equivalent of science fiction more than anything else. Smart meters interfering with Netflix is akin to deepwater plankton interfering with solar flares.
