Do you remember how magical Christmas can feel as a child? Come one, come all and participate in the 2012 Downtown Springfield Holiday Event held on November 30th! Springfield on the Move, Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce and Springfield Friends of the Town Library are teaming up to make this year’s tree lighting and arrival of Santa spectacular.
Springfield’s children can pick up a holiday sticker map of Downtown on November 30th beginning at 4:00PM at the Springfield On The Move office, 6 Valley Street. (Where all the scaffolding is.) Kids will go to each location listed on the map to receive a holiday sticker.
Last year’s event was a success with over 90 children participating. Businesses gave out candy, holiday ornaments, hot cocoa, silly bands, held a raffle for a bear, and even offered coupons.
The Springfield On The Move office will be decorated as Santa’s workshop where elves will be doling out a Christmas gift for participating in the holiday map tour. This holiday scavenger hunt of sorts will culminate in the spectacular arrival of Santa at 5:30PM, and the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Square!! (Santa will be arriving inside the People's Bank Parking Lot this year...not out on Main Street like in previous years).
Directly following the lighting of the tree, Santa will make his jolly way to the Springfield Town Library. There will be music, refreshments, holiday raffles and, of course, the opportunity for all the children to get their photo taken with Santa.
Downtown Springfield store fronts will be decorated too! We all want to create the kind of memories that our children will talk about for years, and want to replicate for their children!
Can't wait to see you all there! Happy Holidays to all!

Moxley Union will be playing at Backline Central Music shop directly across from the Ellis block November 30th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. We will be playing some orginal music off our soon to be finished demo cd as well as some of your favorite cover tunes from the 60's to the present. All ages welcome
Moxley Union is a bluesy, classic-rock local area band developed from a string of jam sessions in the summer of 2011.

It was great to see so many families walking around downtown tonight.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it because in a few years the town will stink so bad that few will venture outside in the toxic air. Remember the Shoddy Mill when it operated? Those that do dare to go outside will have to run the gauntlet of hoodlums that will control the streets. The town "fathers" will be seeking approval for yet another tax payer boondoggle proclaimed to be the new "fix" for the town that will just be more nails in the coffin of Springfield.
DeleteAnon 10:05, why aren't you ranting about the light pollution from the tree, or the cost of running too? Do the town a favor, shut up or move out. You've got some screws loose.
DeleteAnon 11:06, you are right on the money! I would loan my truck to anon 10:05 to help him take his attitude and move far,far away.
DeleteBah humbug! There is no Santa folks. About time the people of Springfield recognize it. Every year there are promises from the town's "leadership" of gifts for the residents and every year they just get more manure.
DeleteHow does the saying go regarding Santa? "First, I believe in Santa, then I disbelieve in Santa, then I am Santa, and finally I wind up looking like Santa." Pretty much sums it up.
DeleteEvents like this are what makes Springfield a community, not just another town. FANTASTIC NIGHT!
ReplyDeleteSpringfield On The Move......Laxatives In Action!
ReplyDeleteAnd Santa passed out brand new baggies of heroin! Happy to hear everyone enjoyed the night!

DeleteI love Springfield. I think it's a GREAT place to raise my family. I'm proud to be a resident of such a fine community. All I can figure is that the "Springfield Haters" on this site are really just a bunch of old BF folks who continue to be jealous of what a great community we have.
ReplyDeleteThank you SOM and the other community based organizations for doing so much for our community. I realize it's sometimes a thankless job (so thank you). Remember, your supporters FAR outnumber your detractors.
that, actually, is not true.
DeleteWe are reaching a critical mass tipping point in the percentages who realize the folowing:
those who work for our local government work for us
They are our trustees
they have strayed from their intended purpose, they are guilty of a breach in trust
They have no power over us. FIRE THEM.
STUDY TRUST LAWS
Eliminate the liars like 7:40 a.m. an obvious SHILL.......
Don't forget this has EVERYTHING TO DO WITH MONEY $$
SOM is not responsible for Christmas......
They just stole Santa's gig.... are you surprised ???
It's not like they have ANY IDEAS of their OWN...
They are here to fool you into believing....
yeah... keep your eyes on Santa while they slide their UN and SOCIALIST Derivative boondoggle down your Chimney...
Yeah, THANK YOU !!!!
DeleteThank you for stealing our culture, money, and so many of our friends lives.
@ 7:40..
Deletewho are you ?
Who is your family?
why do YOU need to post anonymous
Springfield is like the book "Animal Farm"
ReplyDeleteThe local politicians and the pigs all look alike and can't tell each other apart when sitting at the table together.
a town once known for fighting socialism has now become the Socialist center of Amerika
