Students finish second at expo
SPRINGFIELD — Students at River Valley Technical Center in Springfield took second place last week at the Manufacturing Student Challenge at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass.
The students from the school’s Mechanical Design and Innovation class disassembled, cleaned, refurbished, reverse engineered and re-assembled an original 1952 Jones and Lamson Model BC-7 Optical Comparator. The project was completed in four weeks.
The students modeled all components in SolidWorks and created industry-standard working drawings for each component. The completely functional, refurbished comparator was demonstrated as part of the Dream It Do It Challenge presentation and will now become part of the “living” collection in the Working Machine Shop at the American Precision Museum.
The American Precision Museum is at 196 Main St. in Windsor. For more information call 674-5781 or visit www.americanprecision.org.
