Team effort accomplishes bleachers makeover

Several volunteers got together Sunday in great paint drying weather to spruce up the Cosmos' football bleachers, first home game of the season is this week.

The project was spearheaded by Tim Gagnier, with help from a group of the athletes' parents. Sherwin Williams donated brushes and rollers, Bibens Hardware donated 3 gallons of paint and the parents paid the cost of additional gallons needed.

Although the choice of dark green paint fits in with the school colors, it's the traditional color for outdoor sports bleachers. Dark green is easier on the eyes when the sun is glaring down so it doesn't blind the players, although that may only matter when the bleachers are empty during practice.

There still remains a bit to do to finish up but the entire project should be done before the first varsity home game on Friday at 7 against Mill River.

Before and After Shots

All the scraping work was done last weekend

Some of the football players came up with an idea to break up all the green and add a little white accents in the center bridge.

  3. Excellent Job!!! Nice to see some folks rolling up there sleeves to solve a problem rather than begging the 'government' to do it. Now how do we trim the tree almost blocking one of the light poles at the field - any contractors with high lift trucks out there????

  4. I would like to send a huge thank you to ALL the players and parents who showed up to help! Without you, none of this would be possible. Hopefully the community will see the efforts we are putting forth to support all of our sons playing football as a Cosmo and they will get behind them instead of talking smack about them on a blog as "Anonymous"
Kevin Day was amazing and tireless underneath the bleachers. With the help of a few players and a truck they raked out years of garbage and leafs from underneath the bleachers while the rest of us were painting.
Kevins wife Peggy, not only helped paint but brought food down for all the people helping. Her mac and cheese was terrific!
Chris Koledo, Sherry Martin, Scott Peterson, Stephanie Gagnier and myself went down the weekend prior and scraped for about 5 hours to get most of the loose paint off the bleachers. We found a few pieces of wood that should be replaced however we didnt have enough money to do that as well as buy most of the paint.
BJ Squires painted the entire upright bleacher supports on the edge of the field and did amazing! Her husband Dale and a friend tackled cutting in all the edges around to make clean lines before starting the seats.
Nicole Kollman, Sherrie Martin, Peggy Day, Stephanie Gagnier, Don Turner, the players and I painted the bleachers and trimwork around the area.
We still have a little bit left on the bleachers to paint. More paint should be in on Tuesday from Bibens. We are waiting to find out the status of the buildings above the bleachers. One of the buildings on the north side above the bleachers is is bad shape and needs to be repaired or replaced.
Thanks to Peter at Bibens Hardware, Nick at Sherwin Williams, Mike and Nicole Kollman, Barb and Ken Vandenberg, Laura and Jerry Ferris, Vallery Bromley, Kevin and Peggy Day, Coach Tallman and Corlee Glynn, David Sharpe, Jen Lariviere, Don Turner and Stephanie Gagnier for the donations of paint and supplies. Without you all this would have never been done!
