Springfield Football Submitted by VT Journal on Tue, 10/01/2013 - 3:03pm In this picture from earlier in the Springfield High School football season, Parker Day (33) is looking for running room and Michael Kollman (32) is looking for someone to block. Kollman has scored touchdowns for the Cosmos in each of their last two games, as at times the Green and White offense shows some get up and go. Unfortunately the offense and the Cosmos fell short in both contests, bowing to powerhouse Mill River 55-12 and most recently, Oxbow 36-24. Although Mill River dominated the locals, coach Kevin Tallman felt, "We were greatly improved in our fundamentals," and that has been a step the team has been working on to help their development overall. Kollman's TD in that game was on a 3 yard blast and the other Green score was on a 68 yard pass play with Justin Gomez throwing and Kyle Weeks catching the ball on the scoring play. The Oxbow game proved to be much more of a competitive contest. The two teams played decent defense in the first half, which concluded with the Olympians in front 14-8. Things turned much more offensive in the second half. Kollman's touchdown in the Oxbow game was on a 6-yard run and he also had the ball over the line on two point conversions. "The defense really played hard," were Tallman's words in describing the unit, which even scored a touchdown on a 39 yard interception return by Mitch Greenwood. The third Cosmo TD of the day was by way of Rivers, who ran 14 yards for six points. A big defensive play was turned in by Weeks, who intercepted a pass to culminate another Oxbow scoring drive. What was the difference in this one? Tallman unfortunately knows. "Oxbow's special teams had three scores," the Cosmos head man let us know, going on to say, "The special teams and because the offense had eight fumbles." Springfield will be looking to limit their mistakes when they host Windsor Friday night at 7 p.m. - See more at: http://www.vermontjournal.com/content/springfield-football#sthash.7wCGeMCf.dpuf
