SPRINGFIELD, VT -A family in transition is the focus of “The O’Conner Girls,” the final play of the season for the Springfield Community Players. Directed by Donald Gray, the comedy/drama features a spirited, accomplished quartet of actresses in an Irish Catholic Minnesota household. They have previously appeared together in “The Octette Bridge Club” and thus have a noticeable rapport. Following the death of their father, twin sisters gather with their mother and aunt to sift through a mountain of boxes and bags of memorabilia, photos, report cards and other personal effects. Dashes of Irish wit, some Catholic guilt, old movies, and a new romance are sprinkled through the story along with some heated arguments and unexpected revelations. Irene Ramen, of Chester, plays Sarah O’Conner, with a warm presence, a woman who knows you have to grab onto dreams and make them come true. Cindy Hughes, of Springfield, captures the wit of Aunt Margie, a most amusing relative as long as she is not in your own family. She is the amiable family busybody who meddles in the lives of her nieces and sister. Anna Kendall, of Andover, appears as Martha, who at the expense of her own happiness, has been devoting her life to the care of her ailing father. Aprille Blanchard, of Springfield, plays Martha’s twin sister, Liz, whose outward appearance as a successful businesswoman and wife hides a life that has fallen to pieces. Two days pass with the family and secrets are revealed, quarrels arise and are resolved. And a love interest develops between Martha and a young doctor next door, played by Scott Stearns of Ludlow. Playwright Katie Forgette has put zing into her dialogue, along with warn nostalgia and lots of light humor. “The O’Conner Girls” will be presented at the Springfield Players’ Studio on South Street on October 11-12 and 18-19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for seniors and students and $15 for general admission.
