Firefighters battle blaze in frigid weather

A Springfield family of four safely escaped from their burning home on Brook Road Wednesday night... but then realized they forgot their dog.

The house was engulfed with flames when firefighters arrived. They found the dog alive and bundled it up in a blanket removing it to the outside safely.

Investigators think the fire started in the garage which was destroyed in the fire and from there flames spread into the ell attached to the main house.

Battling the blaze in subzero weather took its toll on some of the first responders sending one of the firefighters to the hospital. He has since been released.

  5. Hopefully someone will take notice of the young boy who lived here, and the fact that this is the 3rd house that has burnt down in 7 years. Their house on Union street was only 2-3 years ago. This child also likes to threaten kids at his school saying he ia going to burn their house down. Maybe his mother should pay more attention.....

    1. Do you really think that this is the place to post this? IF you are so concerned, why not contact the appropriate people. What a way to start humors *shakes head*

    2. @ anonymous, perhaps instead of condemning this CHILD and hurting him more than he probably already does you should look within yourself and realize that he is not truly a "bad" child but a sadly neglected/abused (?) little boy. My son has been this little boy's friend since kindergarten and he is NOT a vicious boy in any manner that I or my son have ever seen. They lost contact for a year until just since this fire happened. Perhaps you all need to see this child for who/what he truly is, a little boy that clearly has never had the nuturing/love/guidance that is a parents' RESPONSIBILITY and she is the person to condemn NOT this wonderful (with proper guidance and love) little boy. He seems to be one of the MANY children that have "slipped" through DCF's CRACKS !!!!!!!!!!
