Vt. loves renewable energy, except when it arrives

Getting energy from the sun, wind and forests fits with Vermont's sense of itself as clean, green and independent. But when it comes time to build and live with the projects that make it possible, things can get complicated.

Its much easier to kill projects than do them. We can dream of someplace over the rainbow where the NIMBYs collaborate on energy projects, but it is kind of hard to conceive of one of any major scale. Hopefully, the Regional Planners mapped some locations for wind energy in Springfield, but I rather doubt they did.

    1. Why what on earth are you saying. The NIMBYs have been very cooperative. Why look how well the cooperated in North Springfield. Protecting our quality of life and keeping the tax base as small as possible.

    2. And the taxes as high as possible!

  2. No, Vermont does not love renewable energy. Renewable energy is a scam in disguise that only serves to artifically raise electric rates and make Shumlin's buddy Blittersdorf a millionaire at the expense of Vermont tax payers.

As bad as the economy is here it will only get worse. Manufactures and even our beloved dairy farms are large energy consumers. When weighing the feasibly of starting or relocating business here, energy cost is a primary factor. And now that Shumlin has taxed and sued VY into an unprofitable existence here in Vermont, you fools that elected him are really going to enjoy your future GMP bills.

So when your kid has to leave Vermont to find a decent job, and the local farmer throws in the towel, hope you feel really good about yourself because the technically ignorant, idealist liberals you sent to Montpelier made it all possible.

  3. To say nothing of the fact that some of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gases are farms. When those cows belch, hooeee.

Don't believe me? The EPA thinks so.

Whoever told you that was, at the least, shading the truth, Jean. While cow belches top the methane list, they are only a part of the agricultural contribution to greenhouse warming, which totals only 7%, the smallest contribution of all the major contributors. Houses contribute 11%. Transportation-- our cars!-- contributes over three times as much.

    1. Jeez, you folks are giving belches a bad name. There's too much acid in stomachs for those methane-makers.
