EVENTS 58th Apple Blossom Cotillion Friday & Saturday, May 2nd & 3rd, 2014 "A Thriller Night — Cotillion Style" Directed by Tammy Farmer and Lisa Rushton When it’s cherry blossom time in our nation’s capitol, its apple blossom time in Springfield, Vermont. The Apple Blossom Cotillion, presented by Springfield Hospital, is a community tradition, a rite of passage for high school senior girls, and the area’s largest single event. For years, people have arrived as soon as the doors open to get their favorite seats to watch the young women compete for the title of Apple Blossom Queen. Or maybe it’s the elementary school children – dressed in tuxedoes and fancy dresses, perhaps for the first time – that draws the fans. “The Cotillion is both a community pageant and a fundraising event,” says Larry Kraft, Director of Development for Springfield Medical Care Systems. All proceeds from the Cotillion are used for the Dr. E. Sherburne Lovell Health Career Award and to support the services of the hospital. This year, 28 high school and 40 elementary school students will sing and dance to music in the “A Thriller Night Cotillion Style” theme. Tickets for the Friday, May 2 performance (Opening Night) are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Tickets for Saturday, May 3 (Crowning of the Queen) are $15 in advance, $18 at the door. Both performances are at 7:30 pm with doors opening at 6 pm at Dressel Gym at Riverside School in Springfield, Vermont. Tickets may be purchased at Tina’s Hallmark Store in the Springfield Plaza, Boccaccio’s salons in Springfield or Bellows Falls, or the Springfield Hospital registration office.
