Kyle Stevens, 24, of Charlestown, N.H., was initially charged with sexually assaulting a Springfield teenager after she passed out at a friend’s home two years ago. The sexual assault charge was dropped in October under a plea agreement in which Stevens pleaded guilty to felony lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. Stevens made the plea deal after he lost a bid to have a police confession thrown out of court. He has been held for lack of $75,000 bail since his arrest in November 2012. He will get credit for the 17 months he has already served behind bars. The overall sentence imposed by Judge Karen Carroll is five to 15 years, with all but 2½ years suspended. After prison he will remain on probation for the rest of his term.
Thanks to the blog owner for the additional data. Given what we have, the plea agreement makes no sense - but surely that is because... .
ReplyDeleteAll but 2.5 years of the sentence suspended and then right back out on the streets to prey on other young women. Thank you judge. Another fine piece of jurisprudence.

ReplyDeleteUntil our elected reprehensibles decide to do something about our non-functioning court system, the status quo will go on and on. Don't hold your breath waiting!
ReplyDeleteJudge Karen Carroll was reviewed and reappointed for a 6 year term in 2012. Windsor County Senator Alice Nitka is on the Judicial Retention Committee. If you voted Alice Nitka in 2012, you Sir, are part of the problem.

To Anonymous 4/6/14, 8:29 PM: I assure you that I have never voted for any of our current elected representatives (House or Senate) here in Springfield. I agree with earlier commenters that they are the biggest part of this problem.
