Shumlin names new health care reform chief, commerce secretary Posted: Apr 10, 2014 8:44 AM EDT Updated: Apr 10, 2014 6:55 PM EDT By Kyle Midura - bio | email MONTPELIER, Vt. - Thursday afternoon, the Shumlin administration announced a new senior adviser. Commerce Secretary Lawrence Miller began focusing solely on Vermont's troubled health exchange rollout in January. Originally a temporary move, Miller will become the chief of health care reform in June, answering only to the governor. And Governor Shumlin will replace the outgoing commerce secretary with another familiar face. Patricia Moulton served as a deputy secretary within the agency until early last year. Moulton was Gov. Jim Douglas' labor commissioner and has held several prominent posts within state government. She says she's excited to be back and leading a strong team. "We have a lot of stuff going on here at this agency and it's all good and it all works together to help reinforce strong communities, good economic development and prosperity for Vermonters," Moulton said. Moulton is expected to take over the reins June 1. She says education-- including workforce development and ongoing learning-- will be especially important to Vermont's economy in the coming years. Moulton's father became the state's economic development chief in 1964 and served under four governors.
Sadly anyone from the Springfield Regional Development Corporation acceding to a governmental position in the state spells doom for it's residents. A corporation that features one worthless taxpayer boondoggle after another is a great training ground for working in government.
ReplyDeleteA rather suspicious appointment, as was her previous within the Shumlin administration.
ReplyDeleteDuring her tenure here in Springfield with SRDC, I'm not aware of any significant business development she was responsible for. As a matter of fact, Goldman and their bank divested themselves of all assets here under her watch, putting hundreds of long time employees out on the street. All of which was avoidable as a number of firms expressed interest in picking up the pieces if union concessions and tax abatements could be offered.
Keep in mind, she was gifted the SRDC position from her Father, Al Moulton. And for this, she now shear heads the State's business development? We're doomed. Get out while you can.
I plan on it! There is nepotism in the schools, town offices and highway departments. This is what transpires when you don't have competent individuals with credentials doing their jobs instead pushing personal agendas.
ReplyDeleteShe was Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Labor for several years. I had the misfortune of having to interact with her after he agency stuck it to my business. All I got from her was mealy-mouth bla-bla. And this after she had helped me establish my business in Speingfield when she had been at SRDC.
ReplyDeleteShe is exactly the right person to head up this boondoggle that Shumlin and his out-of-state supporters have cooked up.
Government is the refuge for private sector failures and this is yet another shining example of that.
ReplyDeleteWhoops looks like I wasn't awake when I posted. Moulton as Commerce Secretary? That's worse than I thought. I thought Shumlin was putting her in charge of the healthcare mess he's created. She certainly has experience making things difficult for small businesses after her stint at VT DOL.
ReplyDeleteOnly in government can failure be so well and so easily rewarded.
ReplyDeleteKicking the incompetwnt can down the road is all they know how to do in Montpeleir.
