4-car pile up near McDonalds

At 3:45 p.m. Springfield Dispatch received a call via 911 of a 4-car motor vehicle accident in the area of the McDonalds entrance on River Street just north of the 4-way plaza intersection. Initial reports were of no injuries however an off-duty firefighter who arrived on scene advised that there was at least one patient possibly more and 5 vehicles were involved including at least one commercial vehicle and one vehicle having sustained heavy damage. Three Officers along with both of Springfield’s ambulances responded to the scene and a request was also made for a VT DMV investigator to assess the commercial vehicle involvement. One patient was transported to the ER for evaluation, no serious injuries were being reported at the time of transport. Vehicles were removed from the scene and traffic was back to normal at 5:30 p.m. The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time.
