A message from the SHS Alumni President

Let me introduce myself. I am Jean Thomas Patoine, Class of 1968 and your Alumni President. This is my second year as president and I want to say it has been and is an honor to hold this office.

My first year certainly was a learning experience, and believe me I made my share of mistakes but have learned from them. I have had very big shoes to fill with the likes of Keith Ferguson and Skip Bruce to name two great ones.

The hope of myself and all of the members of the board of trustee to maintain the integrity of the Springfield Alumni Association. We ask each and every one of you support your alumni association in any way you can.

1. “Did you know our annual newsletter is sent to more than 7500 SHS graduates (that we have addresses for) at a cost of more than $2,500.00.”

2. “Did you know the annual Alumni parade costs approximately $7000.00 annually (including bands, traffic control, insurance, class cash prizes and banners.”

3. “Did you know the parade’s “Bucket Brigade” money along with the sale of famous hot delicious alumni popcorn, is used to cover some of the parade expense. Just think if each person watching and participated in the parade gave $1.00 and purchased a box of popcorn we would have at least $1500.00 - $2000.00

As you can see we always need monetary help. Just think if each person gave $5.00 to the general fund we could take care of all our expenses for a few years and also replace some of our signs, banners, give out large awards, etc. If you can’t help monetary we always need volunteers to help with all our festivities, before, during and after. Don’t forget to register your float on the alumni website. You don’t need to be an anniversary year or alumni to have a float in the parade.

Are you a vendor who would like to be at the festivities at end of the parade, contact myself at the alumni email:  jean50shsalumni@gmail.com.

I hope to keep you updated on a regular basis of with more “DID YOU KNOW” and alumni news. Look for messages from me and press release from our Secretary, Stephanie Gibson Thompson – Class of 2003.

  2. Why do you waste money mailing newsletters when there is such a thing as the internet.

because, dear anonymous, not everyone HAS the internet or keeps their addresses (snail mail or otherwise) up to date. If everyone did, we could!

    2. It is the same reason that the select board packets are delivered via police car, the town is stuck in the 1950's.
