SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jenevieve Johnson has announced her plan to resign as soon as her replacement has been found.
"It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that my time at the Chamber is coming to an end. I have appreciated the opportunity to be your executive director for the last year and a half more than I can say," said Johnson, owner of the Jennywren Cafe in downtown Springfield, in a July 24 open letter to the public.
"Please don't let my decision reflect poorly on the Chamber, if I was in a different place in my personal life I would stay forever."
While Johnson said she was happy in the job, "trying to balance it while owning a business has taken a toll and I no longer feel like I can give what the (SRCC) deserves."
Johnson said she enjoyed the bonds that have developed between the Chamber's board of directors and herself. She also appreciated the relationships she has built with the membership, and the "work that has been started to strengthen Springfield and build our story."
Johnson said she plans to continue with the Chamber until her replacement has been found and feels confident in the new position.
She will be in the office at 56 Main St. periodically throughout the day, but mainly there between 2 to 5 p.m.
The SRCC represents more than 150 businesses and organizations in the greater Springfield area.
